23/4/2015 0 Comments The Full StoryLast night we held our annual Open Night when neighbouring WIs, non-members and even men are welcome to join in the meeting. This year our guest speaker was the actor, musician and artist Steve Huison. Most people knew him from his life changing role in The Full Monty or playing the rather grubby Eddie Windass in Coronation Street but we discovered a whole new side to him as we enjoyed hearing about his life journey. The mixed blessings of being in a very successful film were brought home to us all through his touching stories of some of the negative consequences to his family of his publicly-perceived celebrity status.
Now focussing on his art and music he leads a life far from the red carpet moments he enjoyed after The Full Monty. He is rediscovering his roots in community theatre through his own theatre company The Shoestring Forum which he set up in 2004. The project is run at the Airedale Hospital Psychiatric Unit, West Yorkshire and aims to give confidence and enjoyment to the patients through drama and music. The audience were treated to tales of being beaten up by Sean Bean and kissed by the likes of Jodie Foster and Angelina Jolie but all were delivered with humour and candour and were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. There are photos of the evening in our gallery.
