26/11/2015 0 Comments Gem of a TalkLast night at our monthly meeting we were treated to a talk by Tanya Jones - one of our own members. She shared with us her knowledge of gem stones which is a hobby born out of her geology studies at uni. After an illustrated talk some of us went on to have a go at making a macramé bead bracelet with some of the gemstones. Poor Tanya - it was like having a class of demanding children all wanting to know where their knots had gone wrong!
Eventually strings were unravelled and pride in our creations restored. See more photos of the evening in the gallery.

7/11/2015 0 Comments Bonfire BazaarYesterday evening Bestwood Village held their community bonfire event. BVWI had one of the stalls in St Mark's church and this year alongside our usual sweets and treats we sold some of our craft items. These ranged from knitted mittens (much needed on a cold November night) to cute felt fruits to hold your keys safe inside your handbag. On the night we took over £90 which was split with the church to help fund next year's firework display.
In the photo you see Brenda & Debbie manning our BVWI stall but other WI members were involved on other stalls at the event; Nell and Mary on the church's cake stall, Angela serving hot & cold drinks and Tanya serving the hot dogs and burgers - a really community effort. |
