13/10/2014 0 Comments Poppy DeliveryPresident Brenda Langsdale was proud to deliver a basket of our knitted and crocheted poppies to BBC Radio Nottingham on Friday. The poppies were crafted by WI members and the village Knit & Natter group hosted by Brenda. Our poppies went on to form part of the BBC Radio Nottingham BIG Poppy Knit Exhibition on at the Nottingham Contemporary over the weekend where over 66,000 poppies were on show. Many WIs across the county have been involved in this amazing project which originally hoped to have one poppy for each of the 11,000 Nottinghamshire men that fell in the Great War. Sophie Shardlow, Deputy editor at BBC Radio Nottingham, came up with the idea for the Big Poppy Knit but the making of over 6 times that many poppies has shocked her. They will all now be sent to the British Legion to be sold alongside the paper poppies for remembrance Sunday. See photos of the exhibition in our gallery.
